Weekend Preview: Laying down a marker
The third matchweek gets under way this weekend with just a handful of teams still unbeaten in the Premier Divisions.

Four on Friday
Whitby have had a mixed start to the Men’s Championship season with one win and one tie, and sit third in the league after two games. Waterloo United are their opponents on Friday and will be looking to claim their first three points of 2025 after two defeats from two so far.
Elsewhere, Master’s FA travel to the current table-toppers, North Mississauga. The hosts have won both opening games without conceding against Hamilton United and Unionville Milliken. Masters are still unbeaten with a win and a tie.
The final Friday face-off in the Men’s Championship sees Pickering against Hamilton, with both teams still looking for their first points of 2025 after losing two from two. This will be one to keep an eye on.
There is a solo game on Friday in the Women’s Premier when Waterloo United host Woodbridge Strikers. The home side currently sit fourth in the league with a win and a loss, while Waterloo will be looking for their first win of 2025.

The L1ON broadcasts continue this Saturday, with matches in the Men’s and Women’s Premier Divisions.
North Mississauga travel to Downsview Park to take on North Toronto in the women’s top tier. The latter have enjoyed an unbeaten start to 2025 with four points from a possible six so far, while the away side are aiming to put their first points on the board. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
FC London host Vaughan Azzurri to kick off the weekend in the Men’s Premier. The home side began their first season in the reformatted men’s top division with a tie, and the visitors have one win and a loss so far. Kick-off is 8pm.
Saturday is for soccer
The action begins in the Women’s Championship, with bottom-of-the-league Rush Canada Academy hosting second-place Tecumseh United. The visitors have enjoyed an unbeaten start to 2025 with one win and one tie from their opening two games, while Rush Canada have two losses and are looking for their first points.
The other match in that league is between current table-toppers Pickering and Unionville Milliken. The two sides finished side-by-side in 2024, in fifth and sixth respectively, and Pickering held the upper hand in head-to-heads last season by winning 3-1 and tying 0-0.
In the Women’s Premier, Simcoe County Rovers host the defending champions – NDC Ontario – who have enjoyed a perfect start to 2025 with two wins from two and 12 goals scored without reply. Simcoe have one win and one loss so far.
Elsewhere, 2024 runners-up FC London host Alliance United. The home side took maximum points in this fixture last season, winning 1-0 away from home and 5-0 at Tricar Field, but can the visitors buck the trend and secure their first win of the new campaign?
There are two more games in the Men’s Championship on Saturday, with The Borough Hosting Windsor City, and Sudbury Cyclones against Guelph United.
Sunday showdowns

It is set to be a busy day in the Men’s Premier on Sunday, beginning with Oakville against St Catharines Roma Wolves. The two sides sit next to each other in the standings, both with a win and a loss to begin 2025.
Simcoe County Rovers are on the road to face fellow midtable side Woodbridge Strikers. This is only Woodbridge’s second game of the season following their 3-2 win against Oakville.
Sigma are looking for their first points of 2025 when they host bottom-side Burlington, and North Toronto play second-place Alliance United who are one of just three teams left unbeaten this year.
There is just the one match in the Women’s Premier between Vaughan Azzurri and Guelph United, with the latter back in action following a fantastic comeback victory last weekend.
Unionville Milliken host York United Academy in the Men’s Championship, and Oakville play Whitby in the Women’s Championship.
New talents
If you’re looking for some League2 action, Sudbury Cyclones, Master’s FA, St Catharines Roma Wolves, and Cambridge United are all in women’s division action. Rush Canada and Cambridge are playing in the men’s competition.
