Weekly Rewind: Scrosoppi set up tense final games

Only two points now separate the top two in the Men’s Premier as the season approaches its finale.

Staying in the fight

Scrosoppi kept their Men’s Premier title hopes alive on Saturday with a 4-3 win against league leaders Woodbridge Strikers. Woodbridge went into the game five points clear of their opponents, and a tie would have won them the championship, but goals from Omari Cotterell, Nathaniel Susnik, Luka Juricic, and Tomasz Skublak gave the hosts a vital victory.

Oakville moved to within a point of the top four after beating FC London. Jelani Parsons and Adam Czerkawski gave them a two-goal lead in the first half, before Leart Hurt made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute. Anthony Wright scored their fourth of the match, with goals from Aman Khana and Nick Ferreira not enough to complete a London comeback.

North Toronto also enjoyed a winning Saturday by earning a 1-0 victory against Vaughan Azzurri. Cyrus Rollocks scored the only goal of the game to move his tally to 10 for the season.

There was one match on Sunday, which saw Alliance United leapfrog Simcoe County Rovers after a 1-0 win. Maksym Kowal scored in the 64th minute to earn Alliance the points and move them into third place.

Level at the summit

Unionville Milliken and Sudbury Cyclones will go into their final games level on points in the Men’s Championship. After both sides claimed three points at the weekend, only goal difference now separates them.

There were big wins on Friday for Waterloo United and Whitby – 6-0 at North Mississauga and 4-0 at home to Windsor City, respectively. Nigel Buckley was the day’s standout player in the Championship as he found the net all four times for a Whitby side who still have hopes of a top-four finish.

Pickering rescued a late tie against Master’s FA with Ameer Madden equalizing at 1-1 four minutes into stoppage time at the end of the 90.

A win for the Borough or York United Academy would have moved them closer to the top two on Sunday, but neither could find the net as their match at Birchmount Stadium ended level.

Elsewhere, Abubakar Hussein scored Unionville Milliken’s goals in their 2-1 win at home to Guelph United to keep them at the front of the promotion race.
