The 2025 L1 Cup draw locked in four Premier versus League2 clashes across Round One of the men’s and women’s competitions, with action set to kick-off in April.

Cambridge United and Railway City will make their League1 Ontario debuts in the cup – which will start before the League2 Divisions get under way – and have been handed away matches to top-tier opponents.

Alliance United will host Cambridge’s men’s team – the first confirmed matchup to come out of the men’s draw – and newly promoted Premier side Waterloo United will host Cambridge’s women.

Meanwhile, Railway City will make the trip to Oakville Soccer Club in the Men’s L1 Cup, taking on the rebranded semifinalists from last year’s competition. The women’s team will visit Guelph United who reached the last eight in 2024.

Making their mark

St Catharines fans

Other eye-catching clashes include The Borough’s visit to St Catharines Roma Wolves. It will be St Catharines’ first game since beating Guelph United to confirm promotion to the Men’s Premier in front of a noisy following, and it’ll be The Borough’s debut as a Championship team.

Also elevated in the offseason were Sudbury Cyclones, and they will take the trip to York Lions Stadium where York United Academy will await their first League1 Ontario opponents.

The Cyclones’ women’s team, who have been confirmed in the 2025 League2 lineup, will take on the Championship’s Rush Canada. Fellow Women’s League2 first teams Master’s FA and St Catharines Roma Wolves will also take on the Championship’s Whitby and Unionville Milliken respectively.

Rush Canada’s men’s first team, operating in League2, have also been drawn against a second-tier team in the form of Unionville Milliken. The Men’s Championship’s Hamilton United face higher-level opposition in one of the Premier Division’s newest sides, FC London.

Oakville Soccer Club will take on Burlington’s women in their first game since the rebrand from Blue Devils, and last year’s Women’s Championship runners-up, Scrosoppi, will take on divisional rivals Pickering.

In the Men’s L1 Cup, Whitby will host Waterloo United in a battle between two rebranded teams, and Windsor City will face new Championship competitors Guelph United.

Master’s FA will host North Mississauga and Sigma will take on Pickering, wrapping up Round One with several Premier Division opponents waiting in the wings in the last 16.

The dates for Round One of the L1 Cup will be released in due course.
