Become an MDOC for the 2025 season
Play your part in Canadian soccer by becoming a Match Day Operations Coordinator.
League1 Ontario is once again looking for Match Day Operations Coordinators to help provide an outstanding gameday experience for players, coaches, match officials, and fans.
MDOCs play an integral part in the running of L1ON gamedays, with key responsibilities including assuring standards compliance from the teams and venue, recording statistics, and match reporting through the League1 Canada app, as well as being the main point of contact representing the league on the day.
Communication, self-motivation, and time management are important skills for an MDOC who will, in their role, develop practical experience in events management and sports journalism that will support them attaining industry-related jobs.
Being an MDOC is a part-time role and training will be provided to successful applicants before the 2025 season begins. To apply, please complete the application form (link below) before February 14, 2025.
Karyn Woo was a returning MDOC in the 2024 season and worked several matches including the Men’s L1 Cup Final. She took plenty away from her second year as part of the group.
“I always wanted to see the sport management side of things as it seemed interesting to me, coming from being a student in athletic therapy,” she said. “I never knew anything about soccer, but I definitely learned a lot from being an MDOC.
“What made me come back for a second year is the environment and the community; everyone is nice, yet passionate. I have made so many amazing connections and it’s great to see the athletes perform, especially knowing they could become professional one day.
“This has to be one of my favourite positions.”
Fellow MDOC, John Ross Scarcelli, added: “After officiating for 23 years, I wanted to explore the business and operations side of soccer.
“Working closely with the different soccer club staff, volunteer’s and match officials was my favourite part of being an MDOC. League1 Ontario is filled with opportunities and is always looking for those who can elevate the match day experience.”
League1 Ontario’s Operations Manager, Chris Keem, reinforced the significance of the MDOCs in Pro-Am soccer.
“MDOCs play an important role on matchdays, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them,” he said. “Year after year, the group is full of dedicated people – of different ages and walks of life – who all want to help raise the standards of Pro-Am soccer while developing some key personal skills.
“It’s exciting to start the recruitment process for the 2025 season, which is our second with the promotion and relegation pyramid, and we look forward to working with some new faces and returning friends.”
