Cambridge clinch promotion to women’s Championship
Anastasia Kraja scored both goals as Cambridge United beat Railway City 2-1 in the Women’s League2 Promotion Playoff.

Anastasia Kraja scored twice to help Cambridge United come from behind and defeat Railway City and earn promotion to the 2026 Women’s Championship.
The forward netted a goal in either half, including one just 11 minutes before the full-time whistle, turning over an early 1-0 deficit to their Southwest Conference rivals.
After Woodbridge Strikers’ ‘B team’ won the Women’s League2 Division in the playoffs, the two best ‘A teams’ were pitched head-to-head for a one-off opportunity at promotion.
Railway City and Cambridge were the two leading ‘A teams’ in Women’s League2, finishing second and third in their debut seasons in the Southwest Conference after being announced as expansion teams for the 2025 campaign. But there was still a 10-point gap between them in the final standings, with Railway losing just once through the entire regular season and Cambridge losing five.
The teams were almost evenly matched on the goals-scored tally, with Railway leading Cambridge by three, and it was the former who took an early lead in the Promotion Playoff as Thalia Lievano found the net after just five minutes.
Railway, who had conceded just seven goals all season, were pegged back 20 minutes later when Kraja scored for Cambridge to tie the game heading into the water break. The forward is no stranger to scoring against Railway after netting a stoppage-time equalizer at 1Password Park in June.
The Promotion Playoff stayed perfectly poised at 1-1 all the way until the 79th minute when Kraja, who netted seven goals in the 2025 Southwest Conference, scored her second of the game and the winner for Cambridge.
The victory will see Cambridge United play in the Women’s Championship next season, with Railway City staying in Women’s League2.
