First livestreams announced for new season

Get the dates in your diary for the first four weeks of League1 Ontario matches live on YouTube.

With the start of the new League1 Ontario season getting under way, we are looking ahead at some of the headline games that will be livestreamed within the first month of action.

Cup encounters this weekend

This Saturday in the L1 Cup, Scrosoppi and Pickering women will stage the first Match of the Week live on YouTube as they both look to progress to Round Two of the knockout competition.

This is an all-Championship affair, with Scrosoppi almost clinching promotion to the Women’s Premier Division last year, and former League1 Ontario title winners Pickering looking to move up the tiers.

Oakville host the first men’s livestream when they take on league newcomers, Railway City, on Sunday. This is a Premier versus League2 match, and what better way for Railway City to begin life in League1 Ontario by taking on two-time league champions.

Tune into our YouTube channel to see if Oakville can progress, or if the new boys can cause a significant upset.

Coming up

Title defence begins – April 19

The 2024 Men’s Premier champions Scrosoppi kick off their regular-season against Simcoe County Rovers live on YouTube.

Last season was one to remember for Scrosoppi, who put their 2023 playoff heartbreak behind them and won their first division title. With 16 wins in 22 games, including 4-0 and 2-0 victories against Simcoe, they topped the table by four points.

For Simcoe, they only missed out on a fourth-placed finish on goal difference, as they came fifth behind North Toronto on 34 points. The Barrie side will have aims to reclaim the title, but they’ll need someone to replace prolific striker Jevontae Layne who recently signed for Valour FC in the Canadian Premier League.

There will be no love lost between these sides heading into the livestreamed game, so it’s going to be one to watch.

A clash of northern namesakes – May 3

In the women’s league, North Toronto host North Mississauga in a game that features two teams who were at different ends of the table in 2024.

For North Toronto, they finished in third place last year, just two points behind FC London in the runners-up spot. Although they were 10 points away from NDC Ontario at the top of the table, they still won 11 of their 18 games, thanks in part to their top-scorer Jade Kovacevic who has joined AFC Toronto in the Northern Super League.

North Mississauga were one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Women’s Premier last season, finding the net 22 times in 18 games. When they played North Toronto in 2024, the girls in green won 3-0 and 3-1, but North Mississauga have shown they can get results when it matters having avoided relegation in a Pro/Rel Playoff.

Will North Toronto build on their third-placed finish and challenge for the title this year, or can North Mississauga move forward from 2024? It will be an interesting matchup to watch live on May 3.
