Jade Kovacevic has been announced as the first player to sign for a club in the new Northern Super League after she agreed to join AFC Toronto.

The 30-year-old forward was named the League1 Ontario Women’s Premier Division’s Most Valuable Player four times in four consecutive seasons between 2016 and 2019 while playing for FC London. She also finished as the division’s top scorer in five different campaigns with the club.

Her prolificacy for FC London, and for Fanshawe Falcons at college, earned her a move to the professional game in Italy. She joined Roma Calcio in the country’s second tier during the League1 Ontario offseason in 2019 and scored eight goals in 11 games.

Kovacevic most recently played for North Toronto, finishing the 2024 League1 Ontario season with 21 goals across 20 games in all competitions. This season took her past 150 goals at the Pro-Am level in Canada – an achievement she has managed in fewer than 100 matches.

“Jade is one of the best players to have ever played in women’s League1 Ontario competition,” said Dino Rossi, Executive Chairman at League1 Ontario. “She was someone who certainly sprang to mind when plans for a professional women’s soccer league in Canada were officially announced.

“She has plenty of experience – and goals – playing in League1 Ontario, and has proven time and time again her value both on and off the field as a teammate, leader, and friend.

“Everyone at League1 Ontario would like to congratulate Jade on her achievement as the first player to step up from League1 Ontario to the Northern Super League, and wish her the very best in the professional game.”
