North Mississauga retain Premier status in Pro/Rel Playoff
The Panthers defeated Championship challengers Scrosoppi FC 3-1 at Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre.
North Mississauga scored three goals against Scrosoppi to win their first game since the start of June and retain their Women’s Premier Division status for the 2025 season.
It was an incredible debut women’s campaign for Scrosoppi who impressed in the Championship to finish second, and also reached the quarterfinals of the L1 Cup by defeating Burlington and Blue Devils.
But North Mississauga proved too much for the Championship challengers, and it only took six minutes for the Panthers to take the lead through Jordan Archer who expertly found the top corner from distance.
It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark when Nyla Dore-Anderson crept into the box and was the first to react to a missed clearance, side-footing the ball over the top of the diving goalkeeper and into the net.
Scrosoppi were awarded a lifeline with an hour gone on as a North Mississauga defender was deemed to block the ball with her arm, and Mya Newcombe buried the resulting penalty into the bottom corner.
The one-goal deficit only lasted a couple of minutes, as Archer created some space in the box with a delicate touch off a free-kick and made sure her shot beat the Scrosoppi goalkeeper.
The match was moved indoors before it had started due to inclement weather conditions, but North Mississauga did not let the kick-off delay impact them as they secured their Premier Division status for next season. Scrosoppi meanwhile will be looking to go one better in the Championship.
