north toronto win women’s l1 cup
It was a five-star performance from the 2024 runners-up, who beat Alliance United 5-1 at Zanchin Automotive Soccer Stadium.

North Toronto won the 2025 Women’s L1 Cup as Ashley Campbell and Taliyah Walker scored braces in a 5-1 victory against Alliance United.
It was a close contest at the half-time whistle, with the game closely poised at 2-1 to North Toronto, but the 2024 runners-up pulled away in the second 45 and eventually secured their most comfortable win of the competition.
The cup winners have enjoyed a fruitful season, sitting only three points adrift of the top of Women’s Premier the table and leading the division’s scoring charts with more than 50 goals. They opened the scoring early in the final when Elise Bell pressured the Alliance defence and slipped the ball into Campbell for an easy finish in the fourth minute.
Alliance increased their pressure after the opener, and eventually it paid off after 18 minutes when Julia Cristovao received the ball on the edge of the box and neatly placed her shot into the bottom corner, just out of reach of Raven Edwards-Dowdall.
But the equalizer was short lived; Walker picked the ball up outside the box and fired a rocket into the top corner 14 minutes later to fire North Toronto back into the lead.
Just four minutes after the break, Campbell doubled her tally and the lead with a brilliant dribble through the Alliance defenders and an expertly placed strike past Maria Godoy Atrash.
North Toronto took the game out of reach just 13 minutes later as Walker picked up her brace with a fabulous flick over one defender before blasting the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Then on the 75th-minute mark, Bell had an unmarked run from the back-post and connected to a cross, putting her name on the scoresheet in addition to her nine regular-season goals.
The full-time whistle was met with jubilation as the winners rushed to celebrate their well-earned victory, after having come so close last year.
