st catharines crowned men’s league2 champions
Romero Nicolazzo’s brace helped the Roma Wolves defeat conference rivals Cambridge United in the 2025 final.

Romero Nicolazzo scored a brace as St Catharines Roma Wolves won 2-1 in dramatic fashion against Cambridge United the 2025 Men’s League2 Division Final.
It was all square at half-time with Nicolazzo nullifying the early lead that Cambridge had earned through Christian Ferraro, and the two teams remained in a deadlock until stoppage time when Nicolazzo scored his second of the day.
Cambridge were coming off the back of an incredible debut regular season, finishing top of the Southwest Conference by six points with statistically the region’s best defence and attack, and won 1-0 against Burlington in their playoff semifinal.
In slight contrast, St Catharines finished second in the Southwest and their semifinal against reigning champions Vaughan Azzurri saw six goals, four red cards, and a missed penalty with only a shootout separating the teams in the end.
After emphatically beating St Catharines 6-0 in the regular season a week ago, Cambridge took the lead in the final after just four minutes when Evan Antolcic cut into the box and squared the ball for Ferraro to slot it into the net.
The scoreline remained the same for 27 minutes until Judson Posthuma picked out Nicolazzo on the edge of the box, who seamlessly created space from the defender and curled the shot past the fingertips of Sam Schafer to draw level.
Substitute Matthew Ciavarro came close to regaining the lead for Cambridge at the 69-minute mark after his impressive effort hit the inside of the post and bounced out into the relieved gloves of Nolan Freel.
The stalemate would only be broken two minutes into injury time, as a miscommunication at the back for Cambridge meant Nicolazzo could pounce on the golden opportunity to pass the ball into the open net.
Roma red flares filled the air upon the full-time whistle, and the journey was complete for St Catharines Roma Wolves who had become the 2025 Men’s League2 champions.
