Jessica Breda scored two goals in the last 11 minutes of the League2 Division Final to help crown Vaughan Azzurri B as champions of the new women’s third-tier in League1 Ontario.

The game between Vaughan and Alliance United B was evenly poised at 1-1 before the 79th minute, when Breda found space on the left-hand side of the box and curled a shot past Maria Godoy Atrash and into the top corner, giving the Azzurri the advantage.

It was the second time that Vaughan had led at Tim Hortons Field. Less than two minutes into the game, Maia Torelli bundled the ball over the line at the back post following a dangerous cross from the right.

Alliance, who finished ahead of Vaughan to top the Northeast Conference standings, equalized just before the half-hour mark through Julia Cristovao, whose corner from the left flew over everyone in the box and into the top corner of the goal.

The game stayed tied for the next hour of soccer, before Breda scored her first of the game. Then in the last moments of regulation time, Vaughan stole possession from Alliance in their opponents’ half and Breda won a footrace to latch onto a through ball and slot past the diving goalkeeper.

Breda’s second, and Vaughan’s third, goal of the game sealed the victory for Vaughan Azzurri B – the first League2 champions – and promotion to the Women’s Championship Division ahead of the 2025 season.
