weekend preview
It’s the final matchweek in the women’s campaign, as the men’s competitions look ahead to the business end of their seasons.

Wrapping up the season
The final women’s matchweek of the 2024 campaign begins with Women’s Premier Division and Championship action on Friday night.
Top-flight champions NDC Ontario already have their crown, and they will be playing live on League1 Ontario’s YouTube channel against North Mississauga – another team who also have their standings position secured, and they will take on the second-placed team in the Championship for a place in the Premier Division next year.
It’s the last time that NDC Ontario will take to the field before next weekend’s Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, where they will play against other League1 province champions for national glory. Get your tickets here.
It’s Darby versus Burlington in the Women’s Championship on Friday night. Despite being just two points above the bottom two teams in the standings, they will both avoid automatic relegation due to the teams below them – Tecumseh United and Rush Canada – meeting on Saturday.
Rush Canada need victory against Tecumseh if they are to survive in the Championship, but their opponents need a point. This is because Tecumseh have already beaten Rush – in the first game of the regular season – and would stay above on head-to-head record with just a tie.
Also on Saturday, Scrosoppi host Unionville Milliken in their final game in an impressive debut women’s season in League1 Ontario. They need a win to go top of the standings, and put as much pressure on BVB IA Waterloo’s remaining games.
Waterloo take on third-placed Hamilton United on Sunday at RIM Park. A win would see them crowned champions on number of wins, before their last game on Wednesday. But any points dropped could leave them needing victory next week.
In-form ProStars are also in action when they host Pickering, who are three points below them in the table.
Friday-night tripleheader
St Catharines Roma Wolves’ men have been one of the most in-form teams in League1 Ontario of late, and they will be looking to continue their winning run away at Darby on Friday night.
At the same time, Unionville Millliken will be doing their bit to hold on to third place in the standings as they take to the field against BVB IA Waterloo.
Waterloo are currently in the pack at the bottom of the table where Pickering occupy the relegation playoff position, and Pickering face a North Mississauga side who need a win to avoid being dragged into the middle of the survival fight.
Action continues on Saturday with Master’s FA versus Windsor City, but many eyes will be on the big match on Sunday with second-placed FC London taking on table-toppers TFC Academy who could extend their lead to four points.

One month left
The League1 Ontario men’s competitions still have a month left in their calendar, and Scrosoppi have a slender lead at the top of the Men’s Premier standings after a 1-0 win in midweek.
Scrosoppi’s title bid continues on Saturday when they host a Sigma side looking to drag themselves away from the relegation playoff spot, currently occupied by Guelph United. Burlington also take on Blue Devils on Saturday having ended a long winless run last time out.
Hamilton United will be looking for their first win of the season on Sunday against an in-form Simcoe County Rovers who have climbed to fifth in the table. Above Simcoe are Alliance United, who take on the team above them, Woodbridge Strikers, on Sunday.
Vaughan Azzurri need victory on Sunday if they are to keep the pressure on Scrosoppi, and they host a ProStars side that has lost their last three Premier matches.
The matchweek then concludes on Monday with Guelph United taking on North Toronto.
Showcase opportunities
There are four more Women’s Premier Division matches across Sunday and Monday, and with titles and relegation positions confirmed, it’s a chance for players to leave a lasting impression on the 2024 season.
Already-relegated Blue Devils face a tough final game against North Toronto, who will be looking to end the campaign on a high following the Women’s L1 Cup Final defeat.
Vaughan Azzurri host Woodbridge Strikers in a battle between fifth and fourth in the standings. The league’s top scorers and cup champions, FC London, face an in-form Simcoe County Rovers side.
On Monday, the 2023 champions Alliance United close out their season at Guelph United, and a win could see them leapfrog both Simcoe and Guelph into sixth position.
This weekend is also the last time some of our League2 teams will take to the field. Rush Canada’s men take on Guelph United B for a chance to finish second in the Southwest Conference.
Sudbury Cyclones also have the opportunity to move into second and a potential playoff wildcard spot when they visit Unionville Milliken B, but that leans on other results going their way.
U20 Finals
There is a Reserve League Finals doubleheader on Saturday as ProStars take on Whitecaps London in the women’s showdown, and North Toronto take on Vaughan Azzurri for the men’s crown.
