The final matchweek of the League1 Ontario Men’s Premier Division kicked off on Wednesday, with Scrosoppi moving to the top of the table ahead of the weekend’s clashes.

Manveer Gill scored in the seventh minute of injury time against Alliance United to ensure his side leapfrogged Vaughan Azzurri and now lead the standings by a single point, meaning that victory for Scrosoppi at the weekend would see them finish top the regular-season table for the second time in two years and also be crowned Men’s Premier champions.

Scrosoppi next play on Saturday against ProStars – who have won two and lost three of their last five. Will there be a massive upset, or can Scrosoppi wrap up their seventh win in a row and secure the title?

Vaughan Azzurri then take to the field on Sunday knowing whether Scrosoppi have won the title or not, and they face a Blue Devils side who have lost once in their last five. Vaughan versus Blue Devils is a replay of the 2022 Men’s Premier Division Final and is available to watch live on our YouTube channel.

Finishing on a high

Sigma and Woodbridge Strikers concluded their seasons on Wednesday, with Sigma winning that encounter 2-1 after another brace from Kevaughn Tavernier.

After giving Scrosoppi a stern test in midweek, Alliance United finish their season on Friday night at North Toronto who will be looking to forget their heavy loss to Vaughan last week.

The Premier’s relegated team, Hamilton United, have one more chance to secure a win this season and they face Burlington. Last week the Bayhawks got their first win in August, and could now secure back-to-back victories for the first time since they were flirting with the top of the table three months ago.

The last game of the matchweek sees Guelph United take on the in-form Simcoe County Rovers, but it’s not the last match for either side this season. Simcoe take on Vaughan Azzurri in the Men’s L1 Cup Final on Friday, September 6 – tickets are on sale now – and Guelph will play to avoid relegation to the Championship in their Pro/Rel Playoff against St Catharines Roma Wolves a week later.

More Pro/Rel Playoff action

The Men’s Championship versus Men’s League2 Pro/Rel Playoff is taking place this Saturday at Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre.

Pickering, having finished bottom of the second tier on the final day of the season, take on Scrosoppi B who won the playoff repechage match against Sigma B to give themselves a shot at earning the right to be promoted.

Finally, if all this action isn’t enough, the Fall Reserve League kicked off this week and will be bringing plenty of soccer action across the coming months.
