Weekend Preview: Final-weekend title deciders

Woodbridge Strikers and Scrosoppi are both out to win the Men’s Premier this weekend, while several sides are hunting promotion from the second tier.

Getting over the line

Woodbridge have been the runners-up in the Men's Premier four times and are yet to win the title, but matching Scrosoppi's result on Saturday would see them get their hands on the trophy. They travel to FC London at 8:30pm but could see themselves crowned beforehand if Scrosoppi fail to beat North Toronto.

Sitting two points from the summit, Scrosoppi must claim a victory at St. Francis Xavier in a 6pm kick-off. The hosts lifted the L1 Cup on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory against Vaughan Azzurri, so securing a double here is the aim, but they must still rely on a Woodbridge slip-up later in the day.

There are three matches on Sunday to conclude the season, beginning with Sigma's visit to Oakville. Oakville can claim fourth place with just a point as they would move above Simcoe County Rovers – who have already finished their campaign – thanks to their superior head-to-head record, the two teams currently on eight wins each.

Alliance United edged closer to a top-three finish by beating Simcoe away from home last week, and they can end the season on a positive note if they defeat St Catharines Roma Wolves at Centennial College. The Roma Wolves can finish fourth behind their opponents, but they require all three points here and Oakville to lose or tie.

Vaughan Azzurri welcome Burlington as they come off the back of their L1 Cup final defeat to Scrosoppi. While the Azzurri will want to retaliate with a win, the Bayhawks will be doing all they can to leapfrog their opponents and move up to seventh.

Promotion battle

Sudbury Cyclones secured automatic promotion on Wednesday after completing their Men's Championship fixtures with a 4-0 victory at Guelph United. Four different goalscorers put them on their way to the Premier Division in 2026.

The Borough are third and have the opportunity to pick up six points this weekend, which could snatch them automatic promotion. They travel to Master's FA on Friday night and Windsor City on Sunday as they chase down a second-placed finish.

Their trip to Windsor kicks off at 2pm which could potentially give them the advantage of knowing if, and how, they can earn automatic promotion or a Pro/Rel Playoff spot.

The Borough's fortunes also come down to Unionville Milliken who are currently in second, and they know that a victory at York United Academy at 12:30pm on Sunday will confirm automatic promotion. It would also lift them up above Sudbury having won more games this season, and win them the Men's Championship title.

But anything less than a victory for Unionville could open the door for The Borough, and Unionville's opponents York have their own ambitions. They are not out of the promotion picture, as three points would put the pressure on The Borough in the Pro/Rel Playoff battle.

Even Whitby, who are sixth, still have an outside chance at the Pro/Rel Playoff. They would need to beat Waterloo United at Rim Park on Friday, The Borough to lose their games, and York to drop points at Unionville.

Elsewhere, Hamilton United travel to Pickering on Saturday, and Master's FA conclude their season at home to North Mississauga on Sunday.

It's going to be a huge weekend.
