Title for the taking

It’s been another incredible year on the field for NDC Ontario who have stayed unbeaten in the regular season since kick-off in April. If they avoid defeat against North Toronto on Friday, they will be crowned Premier Division champions for the second time in three years.

However, if North Toronto win, they will extend the title race for at least another game. They have also had a great season, losing just twice all campaign and on Tuesday booked themselves an L1 Cup Final spot.

With the Men’s Championship leaders not playing until Saturday, St Catharines Roma Wolves have the chance to close the gap between them and the top three on Friday night. They host a BVB IA Waterloo side struggling for form.

Pickering, who ended a losing run of their own last week, host Windsor City. These two both have 11 points from 12 games this season.

North Mississauga are two points ahead of the relegation playoff spot, so a win against mid-table Darby would be very important for their survival chances.

Premier action

The Men’s Premier matchweek kicks off on Saturday with Sigma entertaining ProStars. The visitors are one of the division’s most in-form teams with three wins on the bounce, while Sigma have dropped points in their last three after they themselves enjoyed a winning run.

Alliance United would move up to third in the standings and two points off the leaders Vaughan Azzurri if they defeat Simcoe County Rovers, who have won their last two outings.

Also looking to close down the table-toppers are Scrosoppi and they will leapfrog Vaughan to the summit if they can defeat North Toronto.

L1 Cup semifinalists Vaughan Azzurri will however have the chance to reclaim top spot on Sunday when they visit Guelph United, who are aiming to avoid dropping into the relegation playoff position. They are currently just two points ahead of that place which is currently occupied by Sigma.

Lowly Hamilton United would register their first win of the season this Sunday if they can see off Blue Devils – who have won two and lost three in their last five Premier Division matches, but saw off Burlington in the L1 Cup in midweek.

Alliance United edged past Blue Devils 3-2 on Thursday in the Women’s Premier Division, despite a spirited comeback from the Oakville side who tied the game after going two goals down. Alliance are back in action on Saturday as they host Simcoe County Rovers – two teams on 17 points and both looking to steer further clear of the relegation playoff spot.

Blue Devils then return to action on Sunday against Woodbridge Strikers, who have lost their last three games. FC London are four points ahead of Woodbridge in the standings and they host ninth-placed North Mississauga.

There’s also an intriguing mid-table matchup on the cards with Guelph United hosting Vaughan Azzurri – two teams one point apart and experiencing a mixed run of form.

Top three take to the field

FC London are one of the sides who could take a spot in the Men’s Premier next year, and they face Master’s FA in the Championship. Master’s have lost three consecutive games in the division and have slipped into the relegation playoff spot.

Meanwhile, there’s an interesting battle at the top as league leaders TFC Academy host third-placed Unionville Milliken. A victory for the away team in this one, and a surprise FC London loss at L’Amoreaux Sports Complex, would blow the title race wide open.

After winning in the Women’s Championship on Thursday, Hamilton United are back in action on Saturday against Rush Canada. These sides have polar-opposite ambitions, with Hamilton aiming for promotion and Rush to avoid relegation.

Scrosoppi have let their grip on the league slip as two losses on the bounce have seen them drop to second in the standings. They would return to the top with a win this weekend and host Burlington.

The division’s bottom side Tecumseh United need three points against title outsiders Pickering if they are to kickstart their survival hopes, but it will be a tough ask against a team looking up rather than down.

The Women’s Championship weekend rounds off with ProStars hosting Darby – two teams two points apart in sixth and seventh respectively.

Rush Canada can give their Men’s League2 playoff chances another boost with victory against Southwest Conference rivals St Catharines Roma Wolves B. Sudbury Cyclones are top of their conference on tiebreakers and Pickering are their next opponents.

The Borough FC are back in action this weekend and welcome North Mississauga who are just one place below their hosts in the Central Conference table.

Master’s FA face Alliance United B in the penultimate Women’s League2 matchweek, looking for their first win of the season.
