Weekly Rewind: All eyes on the title races

The Women’s Premier and Championship seasons are heading towards their finales, with the battles at the top heating up over the weekend.

Making no mistakes

The top two in the Women’s Premier are separated by two points heading into the final week of the season, while Simcoe County Rovers in third still have a game in hand, after all three secured wins over the weekend.

Friday night saw North Toronto’s 2-1 victory at Waterloo which briefly moved the away side to the summit. Elise Bell fired North Toronto into an early lead, before Ashley Greco doubled their advantage to make it 2-0 at half-time. Alexandria Chuong got one back for the hosts in the third minute of stoppage time but it was too little, too late.

A day later, Simcoe ensured they remained within touching distance of first place with a 4-0 win at North Mississauga. Stefanie Young gave them the lead in the seventh minute, and in the second half Sydney Atwell scored alongside Ally Rowe’s brace as the latter made it 18 goals for the season.

FC London moved off the bottom with a 2-1 win against Woodbridge Strikers. In their final home fixture of 2025, Mackenzie Bilotta and Rebecca Tarc turned the game on its head after Cat Rogers’ early penalty as London claimed their second win of the season.

NDC Ontario had been top of the table but they went into Sunday in third place. However, they handled the pressure on them with a 3-0 home victory over Vaughan Azzurri. Meaghan Cochrane, Paige Rueffer, and Sabrina Morra scored for the hosts to move them back to the top heading into the season finale.

Back to the summit

Scrosoppi have returned to the summit of the Women’s Championship as the promotion race heads towards its climax. They won 2-1 on the road against Burlington on Friday night, with Jahkaya Davis and Destiny Omari giving them a two-goal lead in the first half. Sienna Caesar got one back in the second half but the visitors claimed the points.

On Saturday, Hamilton United dropped crucial points at home to Rush Canada Academy in a goalless tie. The home side still have a game in hand over Scrosoppi, and they only sit one point behind, so although they lost top spot this weekend they have a second chance on Wednesday when they host Oakville.

Saturday also saw Whitby enjoy a 3-0 win over Tecumseh United to keep themselves just one point behind second place. Sophia Saville’s hat-trick gave the hosts all three points, with the promotion spots well up for grabs this weekend.

Pickering’s promotion hopes were dented on Sunday at Oakville who all but confirmed a sixth-placed finish by beating them 3-1. The away side had the opportunity to go top, but Sally Steinberg, Alena Spehar, and an own goal from Brianna Desa put the pressure back on Pickering ahead of the final matches.

Strikers at the summit

Woodbridge Strikers took another huge lead towards Men’s Premier silverware over the weekend.

The matchweek began on Saturday with Scrosoppi winning 2-0 against Oakville at St Francis Xavier. The game was level until the 70th minute but Tomasz Skublak and Augustus Oku scored quick-fire goals for the hosts to secure them three points and keep them in second place.

Elsewhere, North Toronto claimed their fourth win of the season when they beat Burlington 3-2 at home. Bilal Abou Reslan opened the scoring, and Cyrus Rollocks continued his good form alongside Emile Kisse’s goal to give their team maximum points.

St Catharines Roma Wolves also enjoyed their Saturday, defeating FC London 3-1 at Club Roma. Ronaldo Homenszki, Gianluca del Priore, and Diego Rivera all scored; Santiago Fonseca’s goal for the visitors was not enough to stage a comeback.

On Sunday, Woodbridge Strikers’ 3-0 home win against Vaughan Azzurri gave them their fourth consecutive victory and moved them seven points clear at the top. Joseph Fini scored alongside Anthony Morano’s brace as the hosts showed they are going nowhere.

Concluding the matchweek, Simcoe County Rovers remained level on points with Scrosoppi with a 3-1 road win over Sigma. Luke Green, Aidan Hugo, and Lucas Correa’s goals were too much for the home side, with Sebastian Castello scoring a late consolation.

Taking full advantage

Saturday was an interesting day of results in the men’s second tier, with three games ending in ties.

York United Academy were the only winning side of the day, and it was a big victory too, 6-1 at Hamilton United with a Matteo Galati brace alongside goals from Malek Aborig, Anthony Umanzor, Ryan Giovannini, and Ardit Abdulah to move into second place with three games still to play.

Sudbury Cyclones stayed top but could only tie at home to Unionville Milliken. Faraj Hussein Shee opened the scoring for the visitors, and Sam Howard equalized with 15 minutes remaining.

The other two matches saw Pickering tie 2-2 with The Borough and Guelph claim a point at Waterloo United after the same scoreline. The Borough sit two points away from second place with a game in hand.

On Sunday, Baldwin Igbinobaro and a Zion Richards brace gave Master’s FA a 3-0 win over Windsor City.

Onto the postseason

The League2 seasons came to a close over the weekend, with sides preparing for the playoffs. Cambridge United ended their league campaign with a 6-0 win against St Catharines on Saturday to finish top of the Men’s Southwest Conference by six points. Railway City also enjoyed victory, beating FC London 3-1 on Friday.

Sudbury Cyclones’ season ended in a 4-1 defeat to Vaughan Azzurri on Saturday in the Women’s Northeast Conference, and Master’s FA put their Friday defeat at home to Pickering behind them to beat Unionville Milliken 1-0 on Sunday.

Railway City finished second in the Women’s Southwest Conference after a successful summer, while Cambridge United were beaten 5-3 by Waterloo United to end 2025.
