Weekly Rewind: Going down to the wire
Only two points separate the top three in the Women’s Premier, and new leaders have emerged late in the Women’s Championship title race.

Three-horse race
Action began in the women’s top tier on Thursday night when league leaders NDC Ontario won 1-0 on the road against Woodbridge Strikers. Molly Hale scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute to give her side a four-point lead in the standings heading into the weekend.
Two days later, North Toronto made their move towards the top with a 2-0 home win against Waterloo United. First-half goals from Zoe Markesini and Ashley Campbell ensured that the hosts claimed another vital three points in the title race and moved them onto 36 points.
Guelph United also enjoyed their Saturday, winning 5-0 away at Alliance United. Olivia Brown gave the visitors the lead just before half-time, before scoring her second and third in the second half, either side of Zoe Rowe’s goal. Olivia Rizakos’ penalty in the 76th minute put the icing on the cake to give Guelph their seventh win of the season.
Sunday saw some interesting results, with NDC Ontario failing to make it two wins in a row as they could only tie 0-0 at Vaughan Azzurri, bringing the title challengers behind them right back into contention.
Simcoe County Rovers took full advantage of NDC’s slip-up, beating North Mississauga 4-0 at J.C. Massie Field. Soumaya Bouak fired the hosts into the lead, before Ally Rowe scored a second-half brace to put them three goals ahead. Bouak then claimed her second of the game as Simcoe moved to within two points of first place.
The final game of the weekend saw Woodbridge Strikers secure a 1-0 home win against an FC London side who still remain on seven points. Meghan McKye scored the only goal of the game to leave Woodbridge on 15 points.
A new leader
It is all change in the Women’s Championship as just one point separates first and fourth place. The weekend began on Saturday with Oakville’s 1-0 win at Rush Canada, but the main entertainment came a day later as the promotion race opened up.
Pickering and Scrosoppi seemed to be the leading two for promotion this season, but in-form Hamilton United now hold top spot following their 1-0 win at the latter. Chiara Nicolazzo scored the game’s only goal to put her side at the summit, still with a game in hand on those below. With 25 points, they are level with Pickering, who are back in action next Sunday.
Elsewhere, Tecumseh United moved to within one point of the top two with their 3-1 home victory against Burlington. Ava Mills, Savannah Baillargeon, and Jane Pozzi fired them into a 3-0 lead in the first half, and Tori Patterson’s goal for the visitors was not enough to stage a comeback.
Unionville Milliken and Whitby rounded up a crucial weekend in the women’s second tier with their 1-1 tie at Centennial College. Tara Sisic’s first-half goal looked to be the winning one, but Emily Cirone levelled for Whitby in the 83rd minute.
Getting comfortable at the summit
Woodbridge Strikers took another huge leap towards the Men’s Premier title on Saturday as they approach the all-important month of August.
There was a sole game on Friday night under the lights as St Catharines Roma Wolves and Vaughan Azzurri played out a 1-1 tie. Jared Agyemang made it 1-0 to the hosts in the 27th minute, and they remained ahead at half-time, but five minutes into the second 45 Marco Sciortino equalized for the Azzurri.
Woodbridge ensured they remained in first place on Saturday by beating Sigma 1-0 away from home. Joe Mac scored the only goal of the match in the sixth minute, giving the visitors their ninth win of 2025 and moving them onto 31 points, three clear of Scrosoppi behind them.
Scrosoppi also claimed maximum points over the weekend, beating Burlington 2-0 at St Francis Xavier. Jacob Cabral and Miles Green scored for the hosts to ensure they remained hot on the heels of the league leaders and still have a chance at the title.
Saturday’s final match was an entertaining one and saw FC London claim their second win of the season with a 5-3 home victory against North Toronto. It looked to be ending level at 3-3, but home heroes Owen-Dillon and Tomas Alvarez secured the points in the third and 10th minutes of injury time respectively, giving them a lifeline in the relegation fight.

Sunday also saw goals as St Catharines completed an unbeaten weekend, defeating Simcoe County Rovers 4-2 away from home. Ideal Shefqeti scored from the spot, alongside Conrad Czarnecki, Nicholas Andreola, and Jared Agyemang. There was also a 1-1 tie between Oakville and Alliance United.
The top two drop points
Sudbury Cyclones remained top of the Men’s Championship even though they failed to win this weekend. Those below them are still well within a chance of reaching the second automatic-promotion spot and the Pro/Rel Playoff, and even catching the long-term leaders.
On Friday night, Whitby claimed their seventh win of 2025, beating North Mississauga 3-1 at home. Nicholas Brown scored alongside Nigel Buckley’s brace to move their side to within two points of second place.
Elsewhere, Windsor City and Master’s FA tied 1-1 with Jefferson Bosiakali equalizing for Windsor just five minutes after Terrence Foster’s 36th-minute opener.
York United Academy two points away from the Pro/Rel Playoff spot after beating Hamilton United 3-0. An own goal from Noah Matthew Del Vecchio made it 1-0, before Anthony Umanzor and Ardit Abdulah secured maximum points as York’s good home form continued.
Waterloo United won on the road, beating Guelph United 3-1 at Centennial Bowl. Logan Rieck levelled the scores after Ivan Stupak had given the home side the lead, then Wesley Cain put a missed penalty behind him and gave his side the lead with 15 minutes remaining. Markell Saddler then made it 3-1 heading into the final 10 minutes.
On Sunday, The Borough lost ground in the promotion race as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Pickering, with Gianluca Scurti scoring for the away side. Sudbury Cyclones tied 2-2 at Unionville Milliken despite leading twice – Jonah Banks and an injury-time goal from Haji Shee pegged them back.
Five-star performances
Railway City enjoyed a 5-1 home win against Men’s Southwest Conference leaders Cambridge United on Saturday. The visitors had won on Thursday when they beat Guelph United, but were stunned two days later in only their second regular-season defeat of 2025 as their attention looks ahead to the playoffs.
In the Central Conference on Thursday, Rush Canada Academy tied 2-2 with Sigma.
Sudbury Cyclones claimed their seventh Women’s Northeast Conference win of the season on Saturday when they beat North Mississauga 3-0. A day later, Master’s FA were beaten 1-0 by Alliance United.
It was seven heaven for Cambridge United on Sunday when they defeated Burlington 7-1 at Fountain Street Soccer Complex. Railway City also enjoyed a big win, beating Hamilton United 4-0.
