Some teams defied the odds by refusing to give up points in Matchweek Two.

Friday Goals

Defending champions NDC Ontario continued their winning start with a 3-0 home win against Alliance United. The scoring began in the 21st minute through Adriana Bianchin, who completed her brace seven minutes later. The points were secured in the second half thanks to a Nikolina Istocki goal.

There was also action in the Women’s Championship, when Pickering beat Rush Canada 5-1 to go level at the top of the standings with Tecumseh United. Hope Windebank scored a brace, while Hailey Walsh, Tamara Brown, and Brianne Desa cancelled out Sofia Raco’s consolation goal.

In the Men’s Championship, Whitby secured an enthralling 6-1 home win over bottom-side Hamilton United. The hosts continued their unbeaten start following their opening-day tie with The Borough.

Saturday Scarborough Derby

Most of Saturday’s matches were in the Men’s Championship, starting with The Borough tying with Masters FA in the Scarborough derby. The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Christian Keshishian, before Masters’ Aidan O’Keeffe equalized to continue his side’s unbeaten start to 2025.

Elsewhere, there were 1-0 wins for Sudbury Cyclones and North Mississauga. The former defeated Pickering thanks to a first-half goal from Jaiden Santo, and the latter stayed top of the league after Myro Zastavnyy’s goal.

There were also a couple of matches in the Women’s Premier, most notably 2024 runners-up Vaughan Azzurri’s convincing 5-0 win away from home at North Mississauga. A Nia Fleming-Thompson hat-trick was the biggest talking point, alongside Jasmine Bobadilla and Maia Torelli’s goals to claim maximum points for the visitors.

The other match saw North Toronto claim a late 2-1 win following their comeback against Simcoe County Rovers. Rovers took the lead in the 27th minute through Stefanie Young, but Taliyah Walker and Ashley Campbell secured all three points for the home side.

It was a pair of 2-0 wins in the Women’s Championship for Tecumseh United and Burlington. The former beat Hamilton United away with Michaela Marenchin and Olivia Corazza scoring, and Burlington began their year beating Unionville Milliken thanks to a Nassima Benmessaoud brace.

There was a single game in the Men’s Premier with St Catharines Roma Wolves defeating North Toronto 3-1 at home. The hosts went 1-0 down to a Benjamin Dunn goal, but three goals in the last 20 minutes gave St Catharines their first regular-season win since promotion.

Sunday successes

The solo match in the Women’s Premier saw Guelph United fantastically come back from 2-0 down at Woodbridge Strikers to win 4-2. A Zoe Rowe hat-trick ensured her side continue into the season unbeaten, while Woodbridge have one win and one loss.

Another huge result was in the Men’s Premier when Alliance won 5-2 away at Vaughan Azzurri. There were five different scorers for the visitors, who went 3-0 up before half-time. The home side had hopes of a comeback after getting two goals back, but Atchu Sivananthan and Matthew Glavanov wrapped up the win.

Over in Barrie, Simcoe County Rovers put their opening-day defeat behind them with a 3-1 win over Burlington. The latter took an early lead through Monti Mohsen, but Sebastian Cochrane, Luke Green, and Reshaun Walkes gave the home side maximum points.

To complete the weekend’s Men’s Premier action, Woodbridge Strikers beat Oakville 1-0 with a 68th-minute Ronaldo Marshall penalty.

There was a 4-3 thriller in the Men’s Championship between York United Academy and Waterloo United – the former running out as winners. Waterloo took the lead before going 2-1 down at half-time, and despite Markell Saddler’s second goal tying the game on 60 minutes, Kourosh Jamshidi and Yosmar Anaya gave York all three points.

The other Men’s Championship game was Guelph United’s 2-0 win away from home at Windsor City, thanks to an Aiden Borges brace.

To round up the weekend, Oakville beat Scrosoppi 2-0 in the Women’s Championship thanks to goals from Mckenna Burt and Samantha Caputo.
