Weekly Rewind: Master’s making their move
The Scarborough side have quietly gone about their unbeaten season, as teams press for ascendency in this early stage of the campaign.

Goals galore on Friday
Matchweek Five got off to a flyer on Friday with some big results in every division.
Simcoe County Rovers claimed their second Men’s Premier win of 2025 after a 4-1 victory away at North Toronto. The home side have remained winless this season, while Simcoe have moved into the top five on eight points. Lucas Correa, Keegan Wilson, Shawn Claud Lawson, and Reshaun Walkes ensured the visitors took maximum points.
NDC Ontario continued their title defence with a 2-0 home win against North Toronto in the Women’s Premier. Kayla Gaynor and Olivia Chisholm scored the game’s only goals in the first half to give the hosts their fourth win from five matches. The visitors, who had led the standings, have dropped to third place with 10 points.
In the Men’s Championship, there was a big win for Waterloo United who claimed their first victory of 2025, winning 4-0 against Hamilton United. Both sides sat next to each other at the foot of the standings before the game, but the hosts have moved up to 10th after an important three points.
Elsewhere, York United Academy enjoyed a 3-2 win on the road against North Mississauga. The hosts opened the scoring through Thomas Kapustynski, before Marsel Bibishkov’s brace turned the game on its head. Adam Al-Hbadi equalized just short of the hour mark, but Ryan Giovannini scored the winner on 71 minutes.
To finish Friday, Pickering won 3-1 against Burlington in the Women’s Championship to go top of the standings. Hope Windebank’s early opener was cancelled out in the 86th minute by Cristina Ciofani, but Jacqueline Brown scored a minute later before Tamara Brown secured the points in injury time.
Keeping the pressure on
It was a busy Saturday in the Men’s Championship, with Sudbury Cyclones maintaining their spot at the top. They hosted a 1-1 tie with Whitby, who could have gone top if they had won. Erion Metaj opened the scoring just before half-time, and after Russell Robertson’s red card led, Caelan Walraven equalized against ten men.
There was a win for Master’s FA who have closed the gap at the top to one point after an extra game played. They beat Guelph United in a 2-1 home win thanks to a John Ribeiro goal, and Lorenzo Mayer’s penalty that cancelled out Milan Beader’s equalizer.
The final Men’s Championship game on Saturday saw Pickering defeat Windsor City in a 2-1 home win. Songmafolo Coulibay made it 1-0 to Windsor after two minutes, but Abdel Kuwa was sent off for the away side in the 19th minute. Gianluca Scurti equalized on 71 minutes, before Ayomide Abobare won the game with two minutes to play.
Vaughan Azzurri enjoyed a 1-0 away win at FC London to maintain their title challenge in the Women’s Premier. Nia Fleming-Thompson scored her fifth of the season in first-half stoppage time to give the visitors their fourth win from five games.

Elsewhere, Waterloo United won 2-0 against North Mississauga at Rim Park. A Sophia Cabral brace moved the hosts into fifth place, while the visitors remain without a point in 2025.
There was a solo match in the Men’s Premier when Alliance United beat Burlington 3-1 to go top. Angelo Ventrella put his side ahead after half an hour, and Kingsley Belele restored the lead following Alex Cordon’s equalizer. Adrian Panaite wrapped up the points with a goal four minutes from time.
Rush Canada Academy and Whitby played out a 1-1 tie in the Women’s Championship. A Kai Douglas penalty put the visitors 1-0 up but a late Shannon Brown goal ensured the game ended level.
Sigma’s Sunday best
Sigma claimed their second victory of the season with an entertaining 4-3 away game against Vaughan Azzurri. The hosts took the lead through Ryan Robinson, but three goals in eighteen minutes from Domenico Folino, Leaford Allen, and Sebastien Castello made it 3-1. Ethan Beckford and Andy Baquero completed the comeback, but Castello completed his brace to win the game.
Also in the Men’s Premier, there was a 2-2 tie between Woodbridge Strikers and St Catharines Roma Wolves as the former remained unbeaten in 2025. Ronaldo Marshall and Justin Cicchillo put the hosts 2-0 up, but Jared Agyemang and Mason Petrucci scored to bring it back level.
Defending champions Scrosoppi beat FC London 1-0 thanks to a late Kyrese Lynch-Bailey goal. They sit third, two points off the top, while London are 10th.
Hamilton United enjoyed a 2-1 away win against Oakville in the Women’s Championship for their first three-point haul of the season. Sofia Mammoliti had Ava Boyd and Chiara Nicolazzo to thank after her early own goal.
Scrosoppi’s women also won 2-1, beating Unionville Milliken with goals from Jahkaya Davis and Sanai Sereboe.
There was just the one match in the Women’s Premier on Sunday, with Woodbridge Strikers defeating Alliance United 3-2. The latter took a two-goal lead through Chelsea Cheung and Sofia Ferrante, but Meghan McKye, Cat Rogers, and Ida Miceli turned the game on its head.
The Borough and Unionville Milliken tied 1-1 in the Men’s Championship, wrapping up our rewind of the top two divisions.
L2 action
The League2 Divisions continued its season over the weekend, with a number of high-scoring games.
Railway City were defeated 3-2 by St Catharines, and Cambridge United won 2-0 against Guelph United in the Men’s Southwest. Rush Canada Academy enjoyed a 5-0 home win against Sigma in the Men’s Central.
In the Women’s Northeast, Master’s FA were beaten 2-0 at home by Vaughan Azzurri, and Sudbury Cyclones were thumped 8-0 by North Toronto. Railway City’s women fared better than their male counterparts and won 2-0 against Guelph United.
