Weekend Preview: Movers and shakers
The standings could change dramatically by Monday as the second-half of a double matchweek takes place this weekend.

Every League1 Ontario division has been busy leading into this weekend, with a jam-packed midweek program across the men’s and women’s competitions.
The match that will kick-off the weekend is Friday night’s solo game with North Mississauga hosting Guelph United in the men’s second tier. The former can head into Saturday level on points with leaders Sudbury Cyclones if they secure victory.
The chasing pack face off
It is second vs third in the Women’s Premier on Saturday, as NDC Ontario travel to North Toronto. Both sides are within touching distance of the summit, and one of them could be in first place heading into Sunday.
Elsewhere, Alliance United host Woodbridge Strikers, and Waterloo travel to North Mississauga, as the two home sides play their second games in three days.
It is also a busy Saturday in the Men’s Championship, with first, second, and fourth all playing in the evening. The games begin with Sudbury Cyclones hosting Windsor City in a match that could extend their lead at the top if they win and results elsewhere go their way.
Behind them in second are The Borough, who currently sit on 16 points, two points away from first, and they are on the road to face Waterloo United. The hosts are fifth at this stage, just outside the top three, and a win could prove decisive if they are to battle for promotion.
York United Academy have had a mixed season so far, with three wins, three ties, and three losses. They can look to put Tuesday’s defeat to Guelph United behind them when they play Pickering, who are eighth.
Only one match takes place in the women’s second tier on Saturday, with hosts Scrosoppi looking to upset the current first-place team, Pickering. The visitors are only one point ahead of Tecumseh United, so they need to continue to pick up wins.
In the Men’s Premier, FC London face Sigma in a crucial battle between 11th and ninth. London need the points if they are to increase their chances of staying up.
A point to prove
There is an abundance of matches to tie up the week on Sunday, with the league leaders in action in the top two tiers.
Alliance could make it two wins in three days if they maximise the weekend, welcoming defending champions Scrosoppi at 4pm. The visitors’ title defence has not gone entirely to plan so far as they sit seventh in the standings, but they can put themselves into a much more comfortable position if they make the most of their spare matches.
Simcoe County Rovers could be in second place in the Women’s Premier by the time they play Guelph United, so they need maximum points against the fifth-placed side who beat FC London in midweek.

With seven wins from nine so far for Simcoe, three points under pressure would further highlight they are the side to beat this season.
Finishing with a flurry
Vaughan Azzurri are currently third in the men’s top tier, five points away from first but with a game in hand. They host Simcoe County Rovers in a bid to pile the pressure on those in front, but their opponents are not far behind, sitting fifth on twelve points.
To conclude Men’s Premier action, Oakville host North Toronto and St Catharines Roma Wolves play Burlington. The former sit level on points with Vaughan, so a win could firmly cement them as a title-challenging side.
Vaughan Azzurri and FC London are facing off in the Women’s Premier on Sunday, as the former look to move into the title fight. For FC London, they are still hunting their second win of 2025 to move away from ninth place.
Master’s FA could be in a very comfortable position in the Men’s Championship by the end of play on Sunday, if they beat Hamilton United. Winning both matches this week would move them onto 19 points, but that will not be a simple task.
Whitby, lost to Master’s FA on Thursday, will be looking to bounce back by beating Unionville Milliken.
In the Women’s Championship, Whitby host Burlington, and Unionville Milliken are the home side when they play Hamilton United.
Redemption day in L2
After Cambridge United’s game was postponed in the Men’s Southwest Conference last week, they have another opportunity to make it seven wins from seven in 2025. They travel to St Catharines Roma Wolves on Saturday, who are behind them in second. Railway City are also in action when they host FC London in a bid to put pressure on the top two.
In the Women’s Northeast Conference on Saturday, Master’s FA host Woodbridge, and Sudbury Cyclones travel to Scrosoppi.
On Friday in the Women’s Southwest Conference, St Catharines host Burlington, and on Saturday, Cambridge United travel to Oakville. A day later, Railway City face Waterloo United.
