Weekly Rewind: Tightening at the top
This week in League1 Ontario did not disappoint, and among all the drama, new leaders emerged in the Women’s Premier.

Statement of intent
NDC Ontario ended both Friday and eventually the weekend at the top of the Women’s Premier after their 1-0 win against Waterloo United. The hosts began the week in second behind Simcoe County Rovers, but a late Nikolina Istocki goal sent her side to the summit before the other sides played.
Windsor City also enjoyed a 1-0 win, beating Hamilton United in the men’s second tier for the second time in three days. The home side took full advantage of their opponents’ poor form and claimed their third win of 2025 to keep Hamilton bottom without a victory.
Title defence ignited
Scrosoppi made it two consecutive Men’s Premier wins with an excellent performance on Saturday, beating FC London 6-1 away from home. Only four points now separate first and eighth, and the visitors ensured they remained well in the hunt with Tomasz Skublak scoring a hat-trick to keep their title defence on track.
Burlington also won their second match in a row, beating Alliance United, whose gap at the top of the league has been diminished to just one point. Amir Shirazi’s brace and Karl Espiro’s penalty secured the points, as the title fight became increasingly more tense and entertaining.
Sudbury Cyclones continued to handle the pressure at the top of the Men’s Championship, beating Waterloo United 3-2 in an entertaining matchup. In a game that saw four first-half goals, including an own goal, Sudbury extended their lead to four points over The Borough.
Master’s FA had the opportunity to stay within reach of the title fight but were beaten 3-2 at a Whitby side who had struggled for wins until now. The hosts took an early 2-0 lead through Nigel Buckley and Erion Metaj, before Terrence Foster and Daniel Avila levelled the scores before the break. Avery Grange then restored Whitby’s lead in the second half.
There was just one game in each of the women’s divisions, as North Mississauga defeated Guelph United in the Premier, and Hamilton took all three points on their travels to Burlington in the Championship. Both sides won by a single goal to nil to secure maximum points in Matchweek 10.
Title race gets closer
Simcoe County Rovers went into Sunday behind NDC Ontario, and that is where they stayed after their 2-2 tie with Woodbridge Strikers. The Rovers had to fight back twice to secure a point, with Ally Rowe and Teagan Handley both equalizing, but no one could find the winning goal.
Vaughan Azzurri also strengthened their position in the title fight when they beat Alliance United 1-0 in injury time. The game looked to be ending level, but a Sabrina Fabiano goal on 90+5 stole all three points for the home side, to take them to within three points of top spot.
North Toronto are also in with a shout of title success as they currently sit in fourth place, just four points from the summit after their 1-0 home win against FC London. Kiyomi McCausland’s goal 20 minutes from time ensured the hosts remained hot on the heels of the top three.
Still in the hunt
Woodbridge Strikers had the opportunity to go top of the Men’s Premier on Sunday but were defeated 1-0 at St Catharines Roma Wolves. The visitors went into the match one point behind Alliance at the top, but the loss meant they remained in second place. With three games in hand still, though, they are still in position to strike.

Elsewhere, Simcoe County Rovers and Sigma also enjoyed home wins, beating North Toronto 2-0 and Vaughan Azzurri 3-2, respectively. Vaughan had tied 2-2 with Oakville in midweek.
The Borough continued their title fight in the Men’s Championship with a huge 5-1 win at home to North Mississauga. In a ruthless first half from the hosts, Jourdan Spence scored a brace alongside Christian Keshishian’s goal. Joshua Gordon and Tyler Londono Zapata then secured the points in the second half to claim their fifth win this year.
York United Academy moved to within three points of the top three with their 2-1 home win against Guelph United. Anthony Umanzor’s penalty gave the hosts the lead in the first half, before Gray Yates equalized five minutes into the second period. The lead was restored eight minutes from time by Malek Aborig, to give York their fourth victory of 2025.
To conclude the weekend in the men’s second tier, Unionville Milliken claimed their fourth win of the year when they beat Pickering 3-2 at Centennial College.
In the Women’s Championship, Pickering continued at the top of the standings after they beat Unionville Milliken 1-0 away from home. A Farrah Yaacoub goal in the 82nd minute secured maximum points, but they still have their eyes over their shoulders.
Right behind Pickering are Whitby, who remained in the title fight with their 1-0 victory over Oakville. The top two sit level on 18 points, but Whitby’s game in hand means they could hold the advantage with a positive result.
It was goals galore at St Clair College to finish the week as Rush Canada Academy won 4-2 against Tecumseh United. Rush took the lead through Angelina Kristic, before Jane Pozzi and Savannah Baillargeon turned the game on its head. Caitlyn Gratton then scored a brace, before Sofia Raco secured the win in second-half injury time.
Back on track in L2
Cambridge United’s six-game win streak was ended last week, but they retook top spot in the Men’s Southwest Conference on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Windsor City. Railway City also enjoyed their weekend, beating Hamilton United 4-0. Rush Canada Academy were beaten by Woodbridge in the Central Conference on Friday.
Railway City smashed Burlington 8-0 on Sunday in the Women’s Southwest Conference, and St Catharines Roma Wolves tied 0-0 with Rush Canada Academy on Friday. A day later, Cambridge United won 2-1 at Hamilton.
In the Women’s Northeast Conference on Friday, Master’s FA tied 1-1 with Simcoe, and on Sunday, Sudbury Cyclones were beaten 2-1 by Whitby.
