Weekend Preview: Attention turns to the Pro/Rel playoffs
There’s high-stakes postseason matches for some women’s teams this weekend, as another exciting round of men’s regular-season matches takes place.

For a spot in the Women’s Premier
Friday sees FC London, who finished ninth in the top tier, host Hamilton United, the runners-up in the Women’s Championship in this year’s Pro/Rel Playoff. The home side finished level on points with North Mississauga in the Premier Division, but their head-to-head record means they are fighting for their survival this weekend.
Meanwhile Hamilton had enjoyed a surge on good form to mount a title challenge in the second tier, but two wins in their last five saw them finish one point shy of the automatic promotion spot. The winner of this playoff match will play in the Premier next year, and the loser will compete in the Championship.
A promotion clash in L2
On Sunday, one of Railway City or Cambridge United will secure their place in the Women’s Championship for 2026. The two teams finished second and third in the Southwest Conference this season, behind Waterloo United’s ‘B team’, and are the two best ‘A teams’ from across the entire division.
Because of this, and Woodbridge Strikers’ ‘B team’ winning the Women’s League2 Final, they have been pitched together for a one-off opportunity to earn promotion.
Three points in it
Only a win separates Woodbridge Strikers and Scrosoppi at the summit of the Men’s Premier, with both sides in action this weekend.
The matchweek begins on Friday night when St Catharines Roma Wolves host Alliance United. Both sides still have a chance of finishing in the top three, so a win for either would boost their confidence heading into the summer’s final matches.
A day later, Scrosoppi can move level on points at the top with a victory at North Toronto. Scrosoppi took full advantage of Woodbridge’s loss last week and, after Wednesday’s L1 Cup semifinal win, they can give themselves even more of a chance at the double with three points here.
Woodbridge have the opportunity to respond on Sunday when they host FC London. A 4-0 defeat to Vaughan Azzurri last weekend put a dent in the Strikers’ title hopes, but this match gives them the chance to bounce back and stay ahead in the title race.
Elsewhere, Vaughan Azzurri are looking to make it a successful week after their L1 Cup semifinal victory against Woodbridge on Wednesday. They travel to a Burlington side who still have hopes of a top-four finish.
Concluding the weekend, Sigma host Oakville with the visitors hunting a top-half spot in the standings.
Hunting promotion
Only a few matches remain in the men’s second tier with several teams aiming for a place in the Premier Division for 2026.
But for starters, four sides who currently sit in the bottom half are in action on Friday night, beginning with Windsor City’s visit to Waterloo United. Neither can reach the promotion places so their goal will be to end the summer on a positive note. Elsewhere, North Mississauga host Pickering as both sides target a top-half finish.
On Saturday, league leaders Sudbury Cyclones are on the road to face Master’s FA with a chance to extend their advantage at the summit. The visitors are two points ahead of second-placed The Borough, who won in midweek, so cannot afford to make any mistakes if they are to claim the title.

York United Academy and Whitby are still in with a shout of promotion, and they play each other at 5pm. A win for either would move them well into the race for the top two with The Borough not in action this weekend.
Tying up another tense matchweek, third-placed Unionville Milliken can also put the pressure on The Borough with three points at Hamilton United, who are still without a win this year. Victory for Unionville – who currently occupy the Pro/Rel Playoff spot – would move them to within one point of the second automatic promotion place.
