The number of former League1 Ontario players who have signed for professional clubs has now risen beyond 300 across men’s and women’s competitions combined.

More than 40 women’s players have found new clubs since the 250 milestone was hit, including several who have stepped up from League1 Ontario straight into the professional game via the new Northern Super League in Canada.

There have also been signings across the world, with former men’s and women’s L1ON players putting pen to paper in top divisions in Albania, Croatia, England, Israel, Malta, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Slovenia and Ukraine.

Chris Keem, Operations Manager at League1 Ontario, said, “We are delighted to be hitting the 300 milestone, which once again highlights that the League1 level is a great pathway to the professional game.

“The number of players turning professional took a huge leap with the introduction of the Northern Super League which, like the men’s Canadian Premier League, is providing great opportunities for players here in Canada.

“But there have also been many signings abroad, which shows that the world is looking to Canada for talent, and we expect the numbers graduating to a higher level to continue to grow as the game develops in this province and across the country.”
